Trying to install Microsoft Office Professional Service Pack 3 (SP3). I downloaded o2ksp3.exe from the MSDN website. When running it, I get a message that it is looking for the file 'data1.msi' and instructs me to insert the CD-Rom for the Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Professional.

The disk I have is Microsoft Office 2000 Profesional, but not the same disk as was originally used to install the Office 2000. The message implies that there is a different version of Office 2000 Pro on the disk than is already in the computer. I don't recall if the disk that I orginally used to install 2000 was labeled as an SR-1 disk.

Even though MSDN web site states that SR-1 does not need to be installed to install SP3, it seems it won't allow it without an SR-1 disk. The only thing I can do is click Cancel, at which time I get the following error message:

"Error 1706:
No valid source could be found for product Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Professional. The Windows instaler cannot continue."

Does anyone know a way around this. I'll appreciate any help.

I had the same problem,
first of all , you HAVE to install the sr1a BEFORE the sp3 , that's from MS website.
Then you have to use the original version cd (ie office 2000 pro , office 2000 pro SR1 etc) I had to do it on about 50 computers but couldn't find a way to bypass the option to insert the cd.

Hope it helps

Thanks, Nick.

I don't know if I can swing that. I don't have the SR1 disks any more, and the non-SR1 disks were installed on a different computer. It sounds like I must have a set of SR-1 disks in order to be able to pull down the right service packs in the right order.

I'll look at it one more time.

Thanks again.

Had the same error, but with WinXP & Office 2000.

I fixed the problem by adding the user to the Domain Admin group and logging on as the user. This seemed to install what needed to be installed. Logged the user off and removed him from the Domain Admin group.

Logged back on as the user with normal permissions and no more error message.
