What am I missing? I type "Change Remote Access" and the switch tells me that "remote" is an invalid entry. I hit the help key and "remote" is not one of the choices. G3SI Rel. 6.3

Try this. You will need tech permissions to do this. Ch sys main. This is changes system parameters maintenance. See if the customer access to inads port is set to y. That may be the problem.

Customer access to Inads is turned on under system paramaters maintenance and my login has access to the Inads port. I have all administrative and maintenance permissions.

OldPhoneGuy,

Remote Access and INADS are not related.

Chances are your remote access feature was permanently disabled. This would block you from being able to change or display it. However, Avaya can (for a fee) login and re-activate the feature.

Good Luck, WHCARon

I know that remote access and Inads are not related. I was just responding to the post before my last.

Your switch may have remote access permanently disabled.
if so, you need to get Avaya to unlock it.

Hey Chaps,

I hope I'm not stating the obvious but have you typed "enable remote" on the command line? Previously, I have had trouble administering the remote access in the UK due to my login permissions (non-super user etc..)
Cheers,
Freddie.

Sure have. If I remember correctly there is something buried in the software that you must change before remote access becomes available. I have checked with several other techs that are responsible for G3R's and G3SI's that are not using remote access. They don't find remote access as a choice either. Does anyone know what command is used to enable remote access from the INIT level once remote access has been permanently disabled?

I just covered this with Avaya. If the command is not available (ch remote), then remote access has been permanently disabled. According to Avaya, once this is done, there is corruption of some sort that takes place and in order to have it turned back on, Avaya has to dial in and "clean up" before enabling it. An Avaya tech literally told me this yesterday PM. This procedure costs $600.

Telcoadmin has reminded me that during my I&M Course I was told that at the point of installation there is an option asking if the user requires the Remote Access Extension- if answer "No" the procedure as described by Telcoadmin is neccessary. I believe that will also involve reset sytem and subsequent outage.

Freddie.
