Tri-Boot Win2k/98SE/Linux

Didn't know where to ask this question, so if it is in the wrong place I'm sorry.

I'm trying to setup a tri-boot system. I currently am running Win2K prof. I would like to set up Win98se and Linux (Redhat-probably) They will all be on their own hard drives.

--I've setup a dual boot w/98SE and Redhat before (on the same drive)--So I'm not complete newbie..

But I'm at a loss on How to start with the tri boot on seperate drives. Especially since The computer is already running Win2k.

So far I have Win2k running by itself. And two other hard drives waiting to be formatted and partioned.

I found that the easiest way to get it to work is to install windows 98 first on the c: drive then install win2k which should detect your win98 and let you have a dual boot.

Last step install linux and grub/lilo as bootloader which should detect your win2k and let you have an entry for it.

Then when you boot your pc you get lilo or grub up where you can chose linux or windows, if you chose windows it loads the win2k bootloader where you can chose win98.

I found this article in how to install windows 98 after you have installed windows nt it should in theory work for windows 2k as well.

But again starting with win98 would probably give you less hassle.

One method is to enable different Boot drives in the Bios; Win2k on ide 0, 98 on ide 1 and linux on ide 2. This would allow you to steer clear of boot manglers (managers).

But if you don't want the hassle of having to enter bios every time you want to change booting o/s, and you want independent o/s (so problem with one won't affect others):

1. Install win98 on drive with no other drives connected
2. Install linux on drive with no other drives connected - and make sure its boot manager (grub/lilo) is installed into the partition its on, not the mbr.
3. Connect all drives - preferably with 2k as first (0) - download boot manager from

http://www.boot-us.com

(free for personal use) & install in 2k. Run to set up boot menu (suggest you save it to floppy for testing - and keep floppy anyway - then can install to mbr if wanted). You should now have triple boot machine.

Thanks, for your help. wolluf I decided to do it the way you suggested. I should have checked back sooner. I came across Boot-US on my own and was reading about it. Looks like thats the way to go.
