Transparent Cursor

When using Excel (97 in this case) is it possible to make the cell cursor transparent?

It might sound odd but I want to do invisible navigation around the worksheet and only use the cellref box to know where I am located.

Sorry, but the slightly bolded border around the active cell cannot, as far as I know, be "turned off".
