transactional replication of sql 7 DB to sql 2000 DB

On Monday I setup and was able to run a snapshot replication from the sql 7 onto a sql 2000, but found it to combersome on the network....so today I tried and FAILED to do the same but a transactional replication and the distrubition agent fails with unable to connect??????
Nothing has changed in the setup.

HELP
