Hello, I have recently noticed a fair bit of data missing from a table in one of my databases. Is there a way to view the transaction log file for a particular time period to determine who or what deleted these records?

There are tools on the market that you can purchse to do just what you are looking to do, however, there is no FREE way to do that kind of thing. The tool vendors likely offer a review period to decide whether you want to purchase or not. Do a search on Google for "transaction log viewer sql server" or something similar to find the products.

You are looking for a product called Log Explorer by Lumigent Technologies ( You can use the free version to view only Northwind and Pubs. It's a good product.

So if you renamed your database to pubs (if you can do this of course since I assume the db is in use) then would that product work on the db?
