Hello Everyone,

Does anyone know an easy way to clean up my mdbdata folder. There are about 7,000 transaction logs in there at 5MB a piece. I am running low on disk space because of this. I have done a Normal (full) back up using the NT backup on windows 2000 server. the logs have not cleared. I also ran the ESE Utility (eseutil /m/k and got some error message saying that edb.chk was not found. I came across this article and was wondering if anyone approves of this method. Or does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get rid of these log files.

P.S. additionally there are also a bunch of IFS files in there. Any ideas?
Thank you so much in advance!

Best Regards,
Will

Do an exchange aware full online backup. The logs will automagically disappear.

Hi Xmsre

Thanks for the response. I did do a back up using the ntbackup. I selected the Microsft Exchange Server and it asked me what server i wanted to connect to? I typed in the server name and the exchange server came up and I selected Microsoft imnformation store. I did a normal (full) backup but the logs are still there. Did I also have to select the actual drives where the information stores are located?

P.S. did you get a chance to look at that link I sent.. what do you think of there method?

Thanks Again
Will

That's basically the method. I would say that you need to check the application log to make sure the backups are completing successfully. At the successful completion of a full online backup, the logs should be truncated. If you find that your backups are completing successfully, or you have recently switched to circular logging, or you removed a storage group residing on the same drive and the logs weren't removed, then you can use eseutil to determine which logs are safe to manually remove.
