Curious problem : I have an NT server with 2 network cards existing in the 2 segments of my network.
Any machine from any segment can ping both sides of the server,(both segments also linked to a router)BUT, 98% of Pc's can't tracert to the server.
Always bombs out with illegal operation straight away.
The strange thing is that the 2% that tracert correctly are actually connected via the same hubs as the ones that can't !!
All ip addresses and subnets and gateways are correct.
Has anybody got any ideas?????
Thanks in advance.

If I understand the layout correctly, you have a router connecting two segments PLUS a single NT server with two NICs and one on each segment? I have a suspcion that it stems from having the same server name on two segment with different MACs ( two nics) and that version of the clients Tracert can not handle the error. The best way to figure this one out is to sniff the network when you run the traceroute. I have seen running dual NICs in NT servers cause havoc and I've seen it work well. I personally will not do it for any client since it's so touchy at times. I know for a fact that Linksys NICs have troubles with two in a NT box and one way for it work better ( based SOLOLY on my own observations) is to run two different brands of NICs. Sounds odd but it has cleaned a few problems in the past.
