i just got this yesterday and i have 2 video clips that i tried to put a transition on

i put the first one that is 14 seconds long in video 1a and the second one in video 1b and its 9 seconds. i put a trnasition in the middle and i overlapped them anywhere from 1 second to 5 and i tried a lot of the transitions

i dont konw what im doing wrong but when i preview it the ffirst clip just finishes and then it cuts to the second one and cuts off the first couple seconds that i overlapped for the transition.

Once you have it ready are you rendering it? To do so you have to have the work area covered with the yellow bar. Then press enter and it should render the preview for that area.

You can also scrub the file by holding down the alt and moving the edit line over the transition.

Additionally, you may want to find the project settings>scratch disk and choose real time preview. I'm not at my pc now, so that's probably off a bit, but close. Once that's done, you can press Enter to see the transitions scrubbed.

im still confused i tried both of those suggestions and it still doenst play the transition

also when it is previewing there is a little black X in a white box in the upper left corner of the video

_____________ 1a
____ trans
___________ 1b

thats what my timeline looks like

sory that picture is drawn wrong
the transition overlaps only at the end of video1a

_____________
____
____________

That looks correct. You may want to try looking at the transition a bit closer now.

Double click the transition.

There's a checkbox that says show actual clips. This will put both clips in the boxes. You should have a slider on the left one. As you pull it from left to right you should be able to see your transition.

You may have the transition backward. If so, click the arrow so that you go from B to A or whatever your configuration is.

The black X in the white box you are referring to means that the preview is not rendered. If you render the preview, you should see your transitions.

ahh i figured out what i was doing wrong

i was just pressing play in the monitor instead of pressing enter

i feel pretty dumb but thanks a lot to everyone who helped
