I have winxp pro and i discovered a folder which was totally hidden even though i have set windows explorer to show hidden and system files. It could not even be seen in windows commander or window command prompt with the "dir /a" command.
I can access the folder fine by typing in the path manually (c:\recycler\nprotect). This was created by norton system works on an NTFS drive.
How do you make a folder that is completely hidden like norton sytem works does? and is there a way to make it so i can see these folders?

In addition, you need to turn off the option to "Hide protected Operating System files" in the Tools > Folder Options > View. This will allow you to see the files in Explorer.

Hope that helps.

Sorry i forgot to mention that i have "Hide protected Operating System files" turned off

In that case, I'm not sure how they do it. My guess, though, would be that they use some of the advanced features and set the permissions specifically to not show the file/folder for any account other than what Symantec would use.

Sorry, I couldn't be of more help.

I dont think its to do with that, windows commander and the "dir /a" command show the folder where temporary internet files are kept "c:\windows\history\history.ie5\" It doesnt have a desktop.ini file in it anyway.
