total removal of app from startup?

I installed an app called livecon to record internet usage, and checked the add to startup option.
When i uninstalled it windows looked for it at startup.
I used Msconfig to disable it, but how do i remove this app completely from the startup list? Any help?!

In might be in your startup folder. Go to Start>>Programs>>Startup and see if there is a link to it. If so delete it.

I think I misread your post. If just don't want to see that entry in msconfig, open regedit and navigate here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfigstartupfolder
& in startupreg

You'll find the unchecked options here and you can delete them.

In Win98, it should be in HKLM/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/run-
That's where all the unticked entries go...almost.
Sometimes you find them in HKLM/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/runonce-

It is not in any of those locations, and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig doesn't exist on my machine.
Is there an .ini file that windows reads to get the list of apps at start up?

That's odd that you didn't find it in they key Comtech mentioned:

HKLM/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/run

I put the wrong key for 98 but that one should be right. I checked it on my system and it was there but it was named for the program and not the actual file. For instance ccApp (in msconfig) was listed as Symantec in the registry. What is in that location?

Download the EXE version of this app:

You can delete entries from the startup without any registry editing.....

Have a look at your WIN.INI file. Get there by going to START>RUN>type in SYSEDIT>hit ENTER. If it's there, just delete it and save. There other places in registry it might be. Comtech (Jim) is in the right area, but there are others nearby, like run- and runonce. Also try a search within registry but as always, ebsure that you export a coy of the registry before you start hacking.

Any apps that have been UNchecked in msconfig will be in the run- key.
Simply delete from there.
It IS possible that it's a run= line in win.ini
