Hi,

I use a Toshiba Laptop with a Port Replicator (Docking Station). The USB only run at 1.0 but when I remove the laptop from the Port Replicator is runs at 2.0 on the laptop.

please to translate.

I no findey question in here.

Done any driver investigating, with the (1st check) laptop on the docking station? Take note of the USB drivers...then take it off (2nd check) and look again.
Any difference?
If you see the drivers are different or want to try others try the updating routine that's built into Device Mgr.

Hi gargouille,
perhaps you could tell me what the question was?

lol ;-)

Mebbe I was outa' my league, Win, but I thought it was meant the port runs at different speeds depending on whether it was docked (or not).
Did I go and say something stoopid again?
You would have to be watching, of course. (or just follow me around)

Hi gargouille,

It just goes to show when the poster is sketchy with details how easy it is for people to see different problems.

To be sure he/she has;
1 x Toshiba Laptop
1 x Docking Station

What is slighty obscured is what runs at USB 1.0 and what runs at USB 2.0

What is totally missed is what the docking station is attached to.

Is the (presumably) PC USB 2.0? I think (big guess here) that the PC is only USB 1.0 compliant and that is why there is a drop in transfer speed - when the laptop is docked.

Kind regards. Running a PC without backups is like driving a car without a seatbealt. Your knack'ed when you crash!

I'm no polyglot, but I saw it as running USB 1.0 with everything connected...then USB 2.0 with the PC by itself.
Maybe you and I will both be wrong...if we ever get more info from WayneDoherty.
Let's decide, if it's up to us, there's no problem with this setup and move along, huh?

ok be me :-) Running a PC without backups is like driving a car without a seatbealt. Your knack'ed when you crash!

The laptop sits n the docking station (Port Replicator). All cables are plugged into the port replicator. When you want to take the laptop with you then you disconnect it from the docking station and it works exactly the same. It to prevent the ports on the laptop being damaged by constantly plugging in and unplugging cables. When the laptop is docked and I use the USB port in the docking station my CD/RW will only run at X4. If I remove the laptop from the docking station and plug directly into the USB on the laptop then the CD/RW runs at X48. So I assume the USB on the docking station runs is a USB1.0 and on the laptop USB2.0.

The docking station is made specifically for this laptop by Toshiba. Is there any way I can run the docking stations USB at 2.0.

Hi Wayne,
Thanks for getting back to us.

If the Docking station is a USB 2.0 device then it is only running at the USB 1.0 speeds because the device you are docking with only has a USB or serial etc. connection.

If it is possible to connect the docking station to the PC via a USB connection (presumably it is if it is a USB 2.0 device or whart would be the point!) then you can buy a USB 2.0 PCI card to put in your PC. That way you would get the full benefit of USB 2.0 connectivity.

Regards.
