Hello,
I have a Toshiba Laptop (Satellite 1800) that on boot up, only shows a small square window in the centre of the screen.
There is no start button or task bar. When I double click this in control panel, nothing happens, when I hit the window button, or CTRL-ESC, nothing happens.
The screen resolution is set to 640X480. I can go in and change this, but on reboot, it goes right back to 640 X 480.
Any ideas what may be wrong here??
Thanks!
Amber

See if it works ok in Safe mode.
If not, then there may be a hardware problem, i.e., video card, display, etc.

If it works in Safe mode, then uninstall and reinstall the video card's drivers.
If that does not help, then do a clean boot to troubleshoot it.
