TOP N function takes forever in CR 10

Hi,
I have a report which has generated 500,000+ records. These records are sorted by a group then against this group is a summary value. When I use the standard top N function "group sort expert" to give me the top 30 values for that group, the report takes ages to recompile...
When I mean ages I mean I left it 15 minutes and it hadnt finished !
Does anyone know else have this issue ?
I've tried it with V9 and it does the same....
I think I may have to ditch the report and look at other ways to get what I want...
Any suggestions ?

The reason that it is taking so long is the report does a complete re-run over the data.

The best way to complish the report is to create a stored procedure in the database that summarises the value that you are basing the "Top N" sort on. Crystal will then only need to pass through the data for the report - not the sorting as well.
