We have a small mixed network of windows 2k, windowsxp and windows 98 machines.

All are using AVG Free for Virus and thats it. There is a major problem with our network bandwidth, the computer are infected with SPYWARE and god knows what else.

Would like to know the Top 5 Tools you guys use to clean computers systems from top to bottom. bcastner told me about EasyClean.

1. AVG Free Anti Virus (anti virus)
2. Windows Update (important)
3. EasyClean 2.0 (registry)

What about freeware Spyware?

Thanks!
Daniel

Hi Daniel, that sounds like a business - most freeware apps are only free for individuals.

Having said that, I don't see anything wrong in using freeware tools to do a cleanup ;) then moving on to payware for normal protection.

Ewido has to be in there.

Ccleaner (general and registry cleaner).

HijackThis is invaluable.

SpywareBlaster for immunisation.

A good Hosts file (the one installable from Spybot as a minimum) for prevention.

Some of the computers are not MS Genuine. I am planning on fixing that, just ordered a bunch of new DELL's to replace the non-genuine systems.

BUT FOR NOW, I need something because the computers wont be here for a week and I need to get these computers online.

Isn't there something in the rules about answering that type of question?
