Thanks in advance for any input you can offer.

About a month ago I turned off Non Delivery Report's (NDR) on our Exchange servers. I felt too many of the NDR's were being sent to spammers, or infected systems that didn't generate the emails anyway. Also, they would often sit in the email queue for days at a time while delivery was attempted. It seemed the NDR's were not only wasting my system resources, but adding to the amount of garbage already travelling the internet.

I am curious if this is something others are doing. Also, if you belive this is a responsible thing to do.

Any input is welcome.

Thanks!

Your decision is good. Many spammers now are using NDR to bounce email off some exchange servers and they 'spoof' the from address so that the email NDR is delivered to the target audience. I have seen companies placed on blacklist because they were bouncing mail using NDRs. The real risk is that ligit inbound mail where the sender misspelled one of your users will not know that it was not delivered.

Good decision, and while you are at it, turn OFF Out-of-Office and other automatic replies as well, they are abused by those same people too, to find out which addresses work and which don't.

Thanks for the feedback. I have been getting some flack on my decision to disable NDR's. So its nice to here from others that have made the same choice.

Or even from those who disagree. Want to make sure I've made the right choice.

System Manager - Global Settings - Internet Message Formats - Right-click the Default and select Properties. It is in the Advanced Tab.

Also, Help would have gotten you there faster ;-)
