Does one need to do any configuration or any changes in the swith if my TN2181 or TN746 card was to go out and I bought another one to replace it with the same type or one that is newer or something. Can I just busy it out then put the new one in and release it back on. Will this put it back in working order as it was before.

You can replace any non control(purple slot) by busy, replace release. Control cards (white slots) need a power down to replace cards. I think the tn2181 is a 16 port digital card thus can be replaced by busy release. As long as the tn number is the same and the revision is same or greater there will be no problems.
