Recently I am getting this problem with my ArcServe 2000 on a Windows 2000 server. When I start ArcServe Manager I will get error on database engine. Following prompt windows are prompts in sequence:

1. Timeout while starting Database Engine.
2. Do you wish to start the MS SQL Server service? Yes / NO. Click yes will loop back to timeout.
3. Click NO - The following ARCserve Engines are not started: Database Engine. Warning: some features and screens will be unavailable for use.
No error log in events viewer or ARCserve application log.

I tried VLDB utilities commands, but unable to get it to run due to invalid user name and password. Is there anything else I can try?

Thanks,

SL

Confusion!!!
Why is the a message about MS SQL if it is a VLDB database.

Find out just what database is installed from whoever installed it. If it is SQL make sure SQL server is up and running, if it is VLDB see thread478-889983 for the answer to your question.
