hi guys, i am sure this might be a common issue, i am running on sql 2000, i have two databases, i occasionally get a timeout when trying to connect, but i can physically go the machine and it would work fine, please help..it give me a error there was a server timeout, they are both on the same lan, can ping my hostname fine...also, i may need to upgrade to service pack 1, this might be a issue, how do i check what service pack for sql i am running, on windows 2000..its on sp 2..please help, thanks in advace

I'm not sure how are you connecting but I'm guessing you're connecting it from a computer which has sql client on it. Try look at your client network configuration from the computer you're connecting from and see if it has the same protocol as the server. I always put NamePipes on the top.
