Time to copy differs from server to workstation

I don't know if this is normal or not, but when I try to copy, or move files from one folder to another on the same server, same volume, when initiated from my workstation it may take 30 to 45 minutes. If I initiate it from the server it takes a matter of seconds. Could this be a virus software thing that scans every file as it accesses it that somehow the server isn't configured for? I'm using Norton AV on my local workstation. If this is the problem, how can I fix it?

Yes this is normal. When you copy a file "local" the data doesn't have to travel across the network. When copy files from a "remote" client the data travels to your workstation and back again.

You can improve remote copy times by not using the Windows Explore. Use xcopy or robocopy from the command prompt instead.

Yes, Antivirus software can play big part in slowing down copy times.
