Hi folks,

Not sure if it can be done but I have been asked if it is possible find out what time an email was opened...

eg if bob sent sally an email but someone else opened the mail on her pc, is there a way of finding out what time the email was opened, without using mail recipts because it is not the originator that wants to know, it the recipient. i don't know the specifics but I hope you get the idea (as barmy as it is!)

It is on Outlook 2003 in case anyone would like to know.

I have my doubts over this as verification would be difficult due to the fact even after opening a mail you can set it as unread, thus defeating the object.

Still, I had to ask

Thanks in advance,

Simon

The closest thing I can think of is 'Last Modified'. It will show the last time the email was touched.

I believe that for a 'virgin' message this will show when the message was delivered to the Inbox, otherwise it will show when it was touched (read, marked unread...)

The Last Modified field can be added to a folder using the column chooser (it will show as a column like Subject or From).

Hope this helps,

Thanks for your input, unfortunately the Last Modified field only changes when you forward or reply to an email, not when opening them.....

That's funny, the notification I got of your post had the date the date/time the message was delivered to my inbox, it changed when I read the message, and two minutes later I was able to make it change again when I marked it unread.

P.S. the time the message was actually received by Outlook can be viewed by looking at the message header.

Hmmmm...

Just to ensure we are singing from the same song sheet, I am using Outlook 2003 (although I previously stated this) The field name I am adding is 'Modified' which, when I go to 'Customize Current View' (from right clicking on the field bar) I then press the 'Fields' button and from the 'All Mail Fields' list I find the 'Modified' field.

I have double checked what is happening my end and I wish it was the same as what you are getting! The field only changes when I reply or forward an email...
