time calculation from event log

HI,

I have starting and ending times taken from Windows event log like:
start: 08.11 22:39:43
end : 08.12 01:45:12

All I need is to find a way to calculate the No of seconds between both.
I recon I'd need to convert the dates+time (maybe to absolute [1970] time?) first - what would be the easiest approach to this ?
