Thoughts on Shoreline IP Phone Switch...

Anyone have any thoughts on the Shoreline IP Phone Switch. One of our corporate partners became a dealer and we will be installing them soon. Just want some opinions on what people think of the switch in theory, if you haven't used/seen one... Thanks,

I've been in the same boat, Matt. I've been on their website, and the Tolly reports seem to give Shoreline a lot of praise. Makes me think Tolly is a partner of some sorts. So, I went to the Tolly site and saw reports from several vendors. Went to the Avaya site, and they were boasting about their Tolly ratings as well. I'm looking at designing a VoIP network, myself, and asked one guy from a different company, and he recommended Shoreline. As the story goes, the problem with VoIP is not so much the equipment, as it is with the network - latency and jitter, etc. So far as shoreline is concerned, at this point, it looks fine.

Hi Matt,

From my perspective, I agree with Pepperz, that the network is where most of the VOIP problems come from. The quality (IMHO) of the VOIP system is how well it copes with a poor LAN.

Shoreline looks OK to me, the architecture is very like one of the systems we resell, which is quite robust...

WE actually run a ShoreGear-12 in our small office.

We don't utilize it as much as we'd like, but so far it's just wonderful.

3 lines in the trunk group, about 8 extensions.

No problems! In fact, the big phatty $2500 Dell Server we bought for the Voicemail system has been replaced with a Pentium 266 with 32 RAM and 2Gig HDD. Zero performance differences.

Now we use that Server for actual work! :)

I'm sure as we explore more options here and there we might need to consider replacing the P266, but it's okay for now.
