Is there any way to disable the onboard sound on a thinkcentre? I checked in BIOS and disabled audio, but still hearing the beeping etc from the onboard sound. Unable to find any information anywhere on how to disable it and calling IBM support told me it's out of warranty and they can't even answer my question.

See if disabling it in Device Manager works.

Nope I have disabled the sound card in Device manager and can still here the beeps through the onboard sound. It's really annoying with having 50+ users close together and hearing the beeps non-stop because we use a DOS based application.

If they have external speakers, then either disconnect them or turn them off.
If they have internal speakers, the remove the computers' covers, and disconnect them.

they do have one internal speaker which I did unplug from the motherboard, but you still can here the beeping coming directly from the onboard sound card and can't figure out how to disable that.

Sorry, but the only other suggestion I can think of at the moment is to hand out ear plugs.

yeah I thought about that, but might make taking all the phone calls a little more difficult. Can't believe they don't have anything in the BIOS to disable the onboard/integrated sound, but will keep looking for options

If no speakers are connected, then your concluding that the sound is coming directly from the onboard sound adapter appears to have hit the nail on the head.
When does the beeping sound happen?

within one of the DOS applications we use it will beep for prompts...IE: continue YES or NO type of stuff or if there is a failure in what they are trying to process. All in all there's more beeping then you would suspect and it's definitely coming from the onboard sound adapter.

OK, starting to clutch at straws.

In Control Panel, open Multimedia(or similar), and click on Devices, click the + next to Audio Devices, double click on the audio adapter, check the box/circle for "Do Not Use Audio Features On This Device", and check the box/circle "Do Not Map Thru This Device".
Click on the + next to Audio Codecs, double click on each codec and check the box/circle "Do Not Use This Audio Codec".
Click OK.

If those do not work, then maybe something in the DOS program is causing the sound, and it can be disabled.

I do believe when something is plugged into the green Line-Out jack that the internal sound is disabled. Perhaps just inserting a stereo (1/8" ??) plug that goes nowhere would do the trick?
