Hi,
I have 380w thermaltake twin fan power supply that will not start. The 5v standby voltage is good.
The supply when first installed worked fine and after two days just shut down suddenly. I took all the connections off and reinstalled the supply and it once again worked ok. Then it shut down after about ten minutes.
I have since tried to get it work with pin 14 to ground routine....nothing. Tried the supply in another computer, same result, nothing except the 5v standby voltage.

Is this the end of my PSU?

Both computers work with alternative supplies so the mobos are good.

It sure seems like its dead.
How old is it?

Pin 14 to ground is the startup routine right?
If that doesnt work then its really dead.
I have a power supply tester to test power supplies so i dont use the other methods. Plus i connect any suspect power supply to a test setup i have, with a power switch on the proper pins on the mobo. But i believe the pin 14 to ground is as good a test as any.
You can get a power supply tester at Comp-usa and likely best buy as well, and on-line, around $10 plus shipping or around $15 at the store.
You can also bring power supply into any computer store and they will test for free.
However, judging by what you have done already, its likely dead, just that a second opinion might be good.

Good advice + great people = tek-tips

Sounds dead. I had a el-Crappo (Powmax) PSU do this to me when I tried to put a heavier than average load on the 5V and 12V. Apparently, the PSU was NOT rated to deliver even 50% load on both of those rails simultaneously. Upon firing up the PSU with a PSU tester, I would only get juice from the +5VSB. :(

THAT power supply recovered when the load was reduced (fewer drives,) but you tried yours in two PC's and that PSU is enough to power about 90% of the machines out there...

So it sounds like it took a dump. :(

Dispensing quality rants and mishaps since 1999:
