Hi all,

Hope that somebody can help with this issue I am having.

Recently, I had to reinstall the PDC because I needed to add more H.D space. I have two more domain controllers.

So what I did before re-building it, I used the dcprono to remove the domain controller from our domain.
Everything worked fine. I did not get any errors.

Now that I rebuilt it and I am trying to add an Active Directory-Integrated DNS forward look up zone I am getting the error "The zone cannot be created. The Active Directory Service is not available.

Any help would be appreciated.

Jose.

Serbtastic,

Thanks for the reply.

Yes I did and did not get any errors.

I do not remember however, if when issuing dcpromo, the DNS service is installed.

It was not installed in my case. I had to install it separately.

Thanks.

Jose.

Hi all,

I have not been able to resolve this issue.

Has anybody else come accross a situation like this one.

Any help would be appreciated.

As an additional note, when I try to synchronize the servers in AD Sites and Services, I get an error "The following error occured during the attempt to contact the Domain Controllers. The target principal is incorrect"

Thanks.

Jose.

On your new rebuilt server, what DNS server is your client configured to use? It would point to one of your other DNS servers, not itself at this time.

Before you removed this DC, did it host any of the FSMO roles? If so did you move them to one of the other servers?

Koonan,

Thanks for the reply!!!

It's pointing to another DNS.

The DC was the first DC I integrated into the Windows 2000 domain.

Before I removed it, I used the DCPromo. I thought that would take care of everything.

The second DC I added to our domain now holds the Role of PDC, RID, and Infrastucture.

The rebuilt server points to this one as the DNS.

Thanks.

Jose.

Are the services running correctly? What kind of error messages are you getting? The problem I'm betting has to do with DNS.

I created a Secondary DNS zone on the rebuilt server because I could not create an Active Directory integrated right after the server was brought back on line.

So I am trying to change it to Active Directory-integrated, but I get an error "The data on the primary zone failed to set. The Active Directory service is not available"

Thanks.

Jose.
