I am trying to install windows xp into new hard drive on my
son's lap top. But when the times to install Windows, it keeps saying there is no hard drive installed. I know for sure that the hard drive is installed right, but I cannot pass this stage. It also says try to run manufacturer's diagnostic disk.

Is there is such diagnostic disk for CHAMPION NOTE BOOK COMPUTERwhich is put together somewhere in Michigan?

Any help on how to get over this stage will be greatly appreciated.

When you installed the new hard drive did you check the BIOS to see if it shows up there?

Cheers
Rob

The answer is always "PEBKAC!

Whenidid a new drive on my laptop XP cd didn't see it, I had to Fdisk first and creat a partition on it.

If its a SATA disc, you might need to provide the WinXp setup with the drivers for it. The drive should have come with a driver disc, you can use. Just press f6 when setup asks you if you want to install scsi or other 3rd party controllers.

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

My favorite is DBAN make a boot CD and type "autonuke" that will wipe the CD and make it Windows-ready. You may need to look in the BIOS and examine the hard drive options, see if there is one for "single IDE", I've run into that problem before. Vacunita has a point about the F6 drivers too if it's a SATA drive, but sometimes you can avoid that with the BIOS setting.

I would be willing to bet that the laptop came with Vista, and you cannot find drivers for XP, including SATA hdd drivers...I'd also guess the laptop does NOT have a floppy, which means that when and if you do find SATA drivers for it, you will have to slipstream the SATA drivers (at least) into a new XP build, then create the .iso, and then brun a new XP cd.
I have never heard of "Champion" laptops, either. Chances are they do not offer support for what you need. I would try to match the hardware as close as you can to a known brand name company (Dell, HP, Gateway) and try drivers from each of those sites. When you find drivers, I recommend using nLite to slipstream the drivers into a new XP build...here's a link...

Good luck.
