The recipient name is not recognized Relay Tested

I have a client who used to be able to send to this email. Now they get this message. The other company says that everything is fine and they are not blocking. If anyone knows what this message means please let me know. NT SBS running exchange 5.5 with sonicwall firewall open on ports 80 and 25. Any help would be good.

If it is just one particular domain that isn't working and you can't send to anyone in that domain there is a good chance they are rejecting you due to a reverse lookup issue with your mail servers IP.

You can check it here


Your mail servers IP should resolve to a name that is in the domain that your users emails specify. Some sites block emails if this is not working (spam prevention).
 
Yeah it resolves to the DSL host name not the mail.domain.com type name. Ping is turned off on the firewall and host resolution for that may be being blocked. I'll check with their IT guy and see if they can add something to their mail server to let us in.

They probably won't, sounds like your ISP is doing your DNS. You just have to call them and get them to put in the correct PTR record for the address of your email server.
