What is the name of the file which you can edit that changes what starts up when you load windows 2000.

Thanks in advance,

Chris Lym

Chris,

There isn't any specific file in windows 2000 that changes startup files, it is kept in the registry now. If you do a start > run and type msinfo32, under the software environment folder there is a startup folder which lists what starts up and the location in the registry where it is located. You can then use regedit or regedt32 to change or delete those keys. Be careful, I would export them first as to not destroy your registry.

Thanks for that, I don't want to delete the key. In dos I used to type rem infront of the line can I do the same or something similar in regedit32 what can I put in front of an entry to make it stay there but not load the driver or program?

Chris

Sorry I don't quite understand.

Does that mean just to put anything in the front of the string.

Sorry, you can't rename, you have to delete the key, but first, export it to a file and then delete it, you can re-import later

it is in the registry menu, normally where the file menu is under rededit, not regedt32

Thanks I will do what you have said. I don't quite see the point of having two seperate programs regedt32 and regedit, but I guess there is some reason for that.

Cheers

Chris

In fact not too sure what certain programs loading do.

The following I do not believe I installed.

internat.exe
Synchronization
NvCplDaemon
NPS Event Checker
LoadQM

What do things do. In particualar LoadQM

Thanks Chris

Loadqm.exe is used by MSN Messenger in MSN Explorer to transmit data. It queues up the instant messages in Messenger.

What is internat.exe? I just updated my win98se machine from microsoft's product updates and now I have that. Never had it before. I should mention that I pulled all of the newest updates they offered.

internat is a program that allows office programs to display that EN (for english) on the program. It allows you to swith between the languages. Guess its international abbriviated. Apparently its a core program.
