The mapped network drive could not be created...

I am trying to map a teacher to a network drive but the message keeps appearing "The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred: An extended error has occurred".
She is able to map on any other pc.Also,other people can map this drive on her pc.I have had to rename her profile many times and that will let her connect to this drive for a few days, then all of a sudden..this message comes back. We are running Windows XP PRO for client machines and Windows 2003 Server.

Do not rename the profile. Things are getting more than a little screwy with the credentials stored for the user in the Protected Storage subsystem.

Create a brand spanking new user.
Then copy the necessary elements of the old profile to the new one that will be created for the new user:

EXACTLY. But the teacher's profile that is having the error is NOT OK.

So, create a NEW PROFILE for that teacher, and once the mappings work, copy over her files/etc.

And never doubt bcastner. He is God.

Maybe I am missing something.I thought that the default profile applied to everyone? If I delete her profile again, it will create a new one based on the current default profile,correct? Bur bcastner said not to rename her profile.
I am confused.

Mr. Castner said to create a new user, then copy over the old files into the new folder.

To me that means to go to the server and create a new user. At the workstation log on as the new user, then copy files from old user into new user.

I have had to do this very same thing before to solve a problem very similiar to yours. It works.

Later, I deleted the old user. You could probably rename the new user to the old user if it was necessary.

You're welcome. Be sure NOT to copy the *.nt files out of the old folder into the new folder or you'll be right back into the fire again. (See MR. Castner's reference to the MS fact sheet.)

Correct. Renaming her profile without creating a NEW profile would leave her with the same corrupted profile.
