Greetings:

About once a week I get this message

The Exchange Server is not responding. Backup set canceled.

This causes the job to stop. I am running BE 8.6 with the client agent installed on the exchange box and the Exchange module running on the media server.

When I get in in the morning, the info store service needs to be started. My boss is convinced that veritas is the cause of this problem. Which I don't disagree with. Veritas support site is not really helpful here. Has anyone seen this or know of a fix?

Thanks,

Chris

Could be backup exec, but could also be a few other things in combination.

1. On the night exchange stops, are you by any chance updating virus definitions, and if so are you then running a full scan of the mailboxes.

2. Check the event viewer, app log, for events from ESE (this is the one actually doing the backup of the Exchange database) - are there any errors here, any wierd things.

3. Try doing ntbackups of the exchange server to disk for a while, writing it to the exchange servers disk, and then use backup exec to backup this file - see if ntbackup exhibits the same things.

What version of exchange is it?

It is exchange 5.5

I did exactly that last night (used NT backup - but since the files are open it can not back them up)... and things worked fine - which is usually the case. It has only had the problem 3 times in the last month or so, but it's enough to make us worry. Nothing else was going on at the time of the backup.
