Hi all,

I have a mega problem at the mo in which is preventing me from starting any services (including exhange 5.5). When I attempt to start the services I recive

error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start

Any help? I am searching for viruses at the mo. We had some remote software put on this machine approximately a week ago which has been removed and we still have this problem. This machine crashed not long ago and Im guessing its because the temperature is 28c (which is way to hot a condition).

The application log is also showing sytem error 32 and also the exhnage server db could not be initialized and returned error -550 (im presuming the latter is because of the services not running)

Any help would be great
Thanks for reading

which services are not running, how much free space do you have and how big is the PRIV.EDB ?

Thanks for the reply

All exchange services are not running except system attendant, which should start all exchange services. I cannot start our Mcafee groupshield services as this is dependant on exchange services running

Our server has approx 800mb of free space and the priv.edb is just over 1mb

I have just looked at the registry and the dependOnService value for the system attendant has a registered service with no address or name? Could this possibly be the problem? Its is as follows

0040 00 00

All the other services have memmory addresses

Thanks again for such a quick reply

Okay, have you changed the password of the account the services are using ?

No there havent been any password changes for sometime, do you mean the name of the account I log in to the server as or are there individual passwords for each service?

For each service you can choose the account/password. Might be worth checking those with then working service?

You could put in the details of one you can confirm to be working as a test.

Hi Grenage

Thanks for your time, the services passwords were fine. The reason they couldnt start was because the dirs where corrupt i.e. reciepients containers etc.

Thanks for your help
