I have been running 2 Exchange 2000 servers for 2 years. I recently installed an Exchange 2003 server and moved all mailboxes from one of the Exchange 2000 servers to this new 2k3 server. It was 35 mailboxes and all worked fine. I have had no problems whatsoever as I took my time making sure to prep everything needed for a smooth transition to Exchange 2003. I now have one Exchange 2003 server and one Exchange 2003 server running. This morning I setup a new computer (XP Pro SP2) for an existing user that already has a mailbox on the Exchange 2003 server. When configuring Outlook 2003 for the user I was prompted for a login when I clicked "Check Name" while setting up the account. I had never seen this happen before and have not yet figured out how to fix my problem. I have troubleshot by doing the following:

Using new XP computer1 - logged in as user1 - Outlook 2003 - mailbox is on Exchange 2k3 svr - prompts for login

Using new XP computer1 - logged in as admin - Outlook 2003 - mailbox is on Exchange 2k3 svr - prompts for login

Using old PC1 - logged in as user1 - Outlook XP - mailbox is on Exchange 2k3 svr - * see error below

Using old PC1 - logged in as user2 - Outlook XP - mailbox is on Exchange 2k svr - it works fine!

* Outlook could not log on. Check to make sure you are connected to the network and are using the proper server and mailbox name. Network problems are preventing connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer. Contact your system administrator...blah...blah..blah...

Remember these users have been running on the Exchange 2003 server now for 2-3 weeks without any problems. OWA works great, performance is great. I can ping anything from anywhere by netbios name, fqdn, it don't matter. Somebody please HELP!

I think I have figured out my problem. It appears that Exchange 2003 will only allow one MAPI connection at a time. I figured this out by closing Outlook on the computer with the user in question and then trying to setup Outlook on the new computer again. It worked fine. Then just to make sure I deleted the Outlook config on the new computer and restarted Outlook on his old computer again. Just like before I could no longer "check name" or complete the config of Outlook on his new computer. Surely there is a setting or a registry edit for bypassing this. Does anyone have any information on this? Any comments welcomed.

I think that's a red herring. I can log in to many computers at the same time and run Outlook on all of them. I have a box with over 500 MAPI connections on it from the same user.

I cannot find anything wrong. Nothing unusual in the app log on the Exchange 2k3 server. Others are saying they have no problems with multiple mapi connections to Exchange 2k3. What is wrong with mine??
