How can I tell that the TFTP server is running on my w2k3 server?

Thanks

Try to pull something off the server from another PC.
If your server has 192.168.42.2 and the file what.doc is in the root directory of your tftp app then open a DOS box on the remote PC and type:

tftp -i 192.168.42.2 get what.doc nothing.doc and press enter

If all is well then you receive what.doc and it will be stored as nothing.doc.

Got it! Would you suggest using the avaya provided TFTP server or a 3rd party one?

Depends on the situation, system admins intend to close all apps running on a server, including Avaya Manager.
Thats why i prefer to use a tftp service wich will run even if no user is logged onto the server but usually this is more difficult to get it working.

The Ava=ya TFTP server is limited in functionality. A 3rd party TFTP server would almost certainly give better perfomace.

The TFTP server capabilities built into Manager are even worse & should be avoided wherever posible.

I am trying to convince our company to start using s TFTP service rather than manager and I have a couple of questions to tag onto this thread
[ol]
[li]GoCarski recommends solarwinds. Any other recommendations for freeware.[/li]
[li]How will implementing a TFTP server affect Manager operation e.g. WIll broadcast location of IPO still work etc [/li]
[li]Is there a worknote or similar available for configuration guidance?[/li]
[li]Will Avaya support systems that utilise non-avaya TFTPservers?[/li][/ol]

Thanks

Take Care

Matt
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

You mean Avaya really supports there own product?.(Joking sorta) How many phones do you have? The Avaya TFTP server supports up to 30 connections.

JeyNEC,
How are you?

I didn't mention pumpKIN because I feel that Whitehorn TFTP Server is just a better (improved) version of pumpKIN TFTP (UI, functions etc. are very closely related). Whitehorn TFTP is being updated and there's a forum where u can ask ur questions. So Whitehorn is pumpKIN for me!
They do have a big edge over Solarwinds.

Good to know, I haven't used Whitehorn and felt that pumpkin was worth mentioning. You can download the source code as well with is very meaningful to some people...

Have you used Whitehorn under heavy load? Say 100 IP stations booting up?

Yes. I have used Whitehorn under heavy load. It behaves exactly like pumpKIN. Well, I appreciate someone updating the program regularly themselves, rather than downloading the source code and managing it myself.

But I give my five stars to Whitehorn. Try it and you'll switch from pumpKIN.

Regards
