Hello,

I work with a lot with a system where I can use copy/paste even though it is not a windows based computer. I use an emulation program called REFLECTIONS. Anyway, I do a lot of copying from the Reflections screens and paste them into Excel. Then I use the "TEXT TO COLUMNS" function under the DATA tool bar to place them into the proper columns and it works great.

But, if I am working a whole lot with copying and pasting, all of sudden, EXCEL will automatically perform the "TEXT TO COLUMNS" for me when I paste. The problem is that too often is will do this based upon spaces which knocks my spreadsheets out whack. When this occurs, my only recourse has been to "UNDO", save my work, then close and re-open EXCEL at which time it performs normally again.

My question is, "Is there a way to just hit UNDO and then tell EXCEL to not automatically process the data being pasted without having to shut it down?"

Thanks in advance!!

Hi,

Make sure that the Text to Columns DELMITER OPTIONS are all unchecked, BEFORE you paste.

Skip,
Thanks for the speedy reply but.... I don't get the chance to answer ANY of the normal TEXT TO COLUMNS delimeters. As soon as I paste, the data is spread out amongst the columns without the chance for me to tell EXCEL fixed width, delimeted by commas, spaces, etc... It just pastes the data across the columns. It is unusual but I have other users in our environment that have the same thing occur. It seems to occur only if after having pasted data and used Texttocolumns properly, then manuver the data then paste again later that it occurs. But it occurs even if it is a different worksheet and even a different workbook.
Any ideas?

Thanks again,
creeker

ACTUALLY go into Text to columns - Delimited and UNCHECK the boxes...

BEFORE you paste!

Yup - when you have set a "Text To Colums" option, it stays there for the rest off teh excel session - you have to manually reset it as Skip says
