Well, you could create a text layer and apply any number of effects to it, as long as the background behind the text remains a solid color or transparent, you can simply animate the 3D translational motion of the layer that the text is on, if your text BG is not transparent, you could use the Color Key to extract the unwanted background to make it transparent so as to cast it in front of a scene, also you could make another text layer with the same text, only make the text black, reduce the opacity so it is translucent, then change the position of that layer to directly underneath the original text layer and make it parallel as well, then you can transform and warp the top of the shadow layer to make it seem as though it were at an odd angle, then you can animate them at the same location and at the same speed to make them look like they're moving in 3D, or you could just use the AE 5.5 3D text functionality to do all of this and more in about 5 minutes.
