This is one I haven't seen before. Searches of Tek-Tips and the Web have turned up nothing for me so far. Our contract manufacturer uses several of our PC's to scan and capture barcodes into an Excel form. All PCs have WinXP Pro @ SP2 and Office XP Pro (2002) @ SP3. A few, like this problem PC, run Bartender software to print labels for the finished product packaging.
Yesterday one PC started acting strangely. Everytime data is entered into an Excel form the font jumps up in size. Select a text box, enter a number like 123, backspace, enter 123 again and the text is very noticably larger. Do it a couple times and the font is so large it will not legibly display within the text box. Editing the text box properties show the font is still set to the proper size. Even after a reboot of the PC the form will load with the font at its last displayed, too large size.
Unprotect the sheet, delete/recreate or copy the text box and the font size displays correctly for only one entry. It immediately start growing in size again with each successive edit.
No new software or software updates of any kind on this PC for a several months. I've ruled out a virus as there are corporate versions of TrendMicro Officescan and Webroot Spysweeper running on the PC. I even installed and ran Spybot S&D. No signs of infection on any scan.
I'm open for any ideas on this one. I've got the feeling it will end up as a reinstall of the Office suite or maybe Office and the OS. I would like to find the real cause in case it happens again or happens on another PC.
