Hi,

My experience is in IP Office and Partner ACS. I just recently took on a customer that has an old Avaya phone system that they want me to maintain. I have been told that some cards in the system are good and some are defective.

I am TOTALLY NEW to the Definity world.

Can someone tell me where to start so I can properly test these boards and determine if they are good or bad?

Thank you so much,
Ike

Ike these old systems are fairly easy. If something dies, it will show up in the alarms and errors. You can do a "disp ala" and "disp err" to see what is bad and what is not alarming.

Even if something is in alarm it doesn't mean it's dead. It may just take a little fixing. Should you get to that point, just post we can help you get through it.

When is the last time you helped someone, just because you were able to?

For the best response to a question, read faq690-6594

run a "test alarms sh cl" command and then fault find after that.

program a station to each port, then put a voice terminal on that port and test outgoing and incoming calls.

I really appreciate all the help, I'm excited to start working on the system.

So here is my first question, is the Definity similar to the Merlin Legend/Magix where after I put in the cards I will have to do a "board renumber" so the slot knows what board is there, or do I need to program a slot for a particular board?

when you plug it it, it should be recognized.

change circuit-pack x (where x is the cabinet number)
You will have 5 pages per cabinet, 1 page per carrier.

With Definity, Just plug the card in - the system will auto detect the port. Administer the port and away you go.

E.g If it is a station card the type add station xxxx and fill in the relevent areas

it's easier to use the duplicate command for a lot of admin tasks.

i.e. dup st xxxx will copy an existing station and you only need to provide the name and port number.

When logged in press the F5 button to see a list of all the commands you can use.

Press the F5 after you've typed "dup" and you'll see what commands are available for that specific command etc.
