Testing network connection

I have developed a program in VB6 that writes, over the network, to an Access database. My problem is, I am working with an unstable network that loses connectivity every couple minutes, and is causing problems with my database. My IT department thinks that, because I am a programmer rather than a networker, I don't know anything about networks, and they refuse to admit there is a problem with their network.

Can anyone supply me with the code to test the network connection? What I want to do is document when and how often the network connection goes down, to prove to my networkers that there is a real connectivity problem

Thanx!

You could make a simple service (sy*****.exe in RESKIT) that polls static ip address around the network and displays the output to a database. Never done it put as a network person trying to learn VB that seems to be a start..... JeffS
