I have a windows 98 at home. My terminal services are hooked up in there and when i try and log on to my servers, it does connect, but as soon as the log on screen is about to appear the internet disconnects. It really tics me off. at first I thought aht my computer might need more Ram to handle the server, so I purchased 128 ram and now my computer runs with 188 Ram. The problem is still the same. Can you tell me how to fix it, by the way i use compuserve 7.0

Compuserver 7.x isnt the root of the problem, but is part of the problem. I have seen too many aol.compuserve users failing to connect to terminal services. You may want to change the port the terminal services listens on (in the registry on the terminal server), then when you use the terminal server clinet is would connect using x.x.x.x:port# where x.x.x.x is the TCP/IP address or host name of the terminal server(s).

Microsoft has a link on their technical support site on how to change which port the terminal server listens on.

but, will this affect how other users log on to terminal services. LIke my employee in Peru, he uses MSN and he logs on it fine, if i change the port number will he still be able to log on fine?? Also,i used compuserve in my laptop, and it logs on fine, the only difference is that its an ME not 98.

Have you looked into another provider for your dial-up? I started with Prodigy eons ago, switched to Compuserve, didn't like them either. I used MSN and AOL for about a year at the same time to see which I liked best and decided on MSN. Kept that for about 5 years, then a freind told me about a company here in town. Turns out it's a guy here who's been providing dial-up services for years here with just a couple of servers in his basement. $12.95 a month unlimited. Companies like Compuserve may do some strange things to there servers. (By the way, have you ever connected? I have a laptop that I keep at work with this guy here in town, and if we're having problems with accessing the internet, I can dial out at work with the laptop and test it. Try finding different pc with a different dial-up and test your connection on that.) Glen A. Johnson

yes, i've cdonnected to my servers many times from different computers and my laptop which uses compuserve as ISP. I;'ve had not problems, except for my desktop windows 98 at home, which is the one i use the most. I will get a new computer in aobut a month becuase of money problems, but for now i really need terminal services working at home since my laptop is getting some repairs done this week. I might jsut try that prot thing that norristech talked about. anyone else got any suggestions??
