My question is in regard to client access licenses. I have activated the server thru the internet. Do I need to install/purchase client access licenses? If I look in the Terminal services licensing program, I see Builtin Existing Windows 2000 licenses on one server, but see an entry for Temporary licenses for windows 2000 terminal services client access licenses on another server we have running terminal services also.
How do I get the Temporary licenses on my other server? Is it needed?

I believe you only need 1 Terminal Service Licensing Server in your network. It will then distribute the temporary licenses on a first come first serve basis to any Terminal Server clients up to the number of Win2k Terminal CALs you have installed

With regard to whether you need to purchase Terminal CAL, if you have only Win2k or WinXP Pro clients, then you don't need to buy. Here is an extract from Microsoft website regarding this.

"Each device that initiates a Windows 2000 Terminal Services session must be licensed with the following:

1. Windows 2000 Professional license or Windows 2000 Terminal Services Client Access license.
2. Windows 2000 Server Client Access license or BackOffice family Client Access license.
Note that this is in addition to other licenses that may be needed such as Microsoft or third-party application, operating system, and Client Access licenses. The above licenses are required irrespective of whether third-party add-on products are used on top of Microsoft Windows 2000 Terminal Services."

Tis true,

Microsoft made a mjor mess up which is why they have resolved the issue with SP3

what happens is....

WinXP and 2k has its own TS CAL
however win98 NT etc doesnt--now when one of these pcs logs into the terminal server it is assigned a license --PERMANENTLY (before SP3)
this is a mjor mess up as with people logging on from diff machines and pcs being reinstalled u eventually run out of licenses.
you then have to call Microsoft clearning house to get them revoked.
once SP3 is installed tho and uve revoked them all its back to buisness as normal.
