Will putting a application(Quickbooks Pro)on a Windows 2000 Server running Terminal Services in application mode increase speed response. Currently have users are accessing quickbooks over a network share, response time quite slow and could need improvement. Network is running fastethernet 100Mbs switches and Nic's. Anybody have suggestions, thanks.

Terminal Services for Quickbooks Pro

Theoretically the answer is "yes".
As long as the Terminal Server is in Application Server mode, and you install the Quickbooks software via Add/Remove (or better still, type "change user /install" at the cmd prompt), then the application should be much faster via a T/S desktop login.
This is because T/S uses RDP, which separates the display from the application logic, so only the screen updates, mouse movements and keystrokes are sent up and down the wire.
In practice, this will depend on the quality of your network (software configuration as well as physical), how many users you expect to be using the server(s) - I'd reckon about 75 users to a Dual P!!! 800 with 2Gb RAM, and how your printers are set up.
My advice is test it first with 10 or so pilot users. I wrote a couple of FAQs on testing for the Citrix Solutions forum aeons ago (so expect them to be somewhat in need of an update...), but the principles are still good.

CitrixEngineer, I'm assuming that i don't need citrix metaframe software on my 2000 server to run terminal services, also using MS Windows TS is workable. I did read articles citrix is a better solution than Windows terminal services. I'm a bit confuse, does anybody have any input, thanks.

It depends on several things - here's a quick checklist of reasons to use MetaFrame;
1. You have a variety of client devices (Macs, Linux, Palm devices)
2. You have users at many remote locations, or constantly on the road.
3. You want to be able to give access to a variety of users, including anonymous users, via a Web Page.
4. You need a way of providing specific applications to users wherever they are, without giving them a full desktop
5. You want the greater flexibility of the Citrix clients over the basic MS Terminal Services client.
Here are some reasons not to go for MetaFrame;
1. Added expense.
2. Need to learn new software.
3. I think 1 and 2 cover it nicely.
If your printers are all standalone (non-networked), then you will need to share them from client machines if others are to use them. Otherwise, consider buying external Jet Direct boxes (if they make economical sense) and set up a server specifically to handle the print jobs. You can then create LPR ports on the MetaFrame servers to point to these printers.
