How do you change the port number in the Remote Desktop Connection client to match the non-default 3389 port number that the Terminal Service is listening on?

Thanks,
Steve

there is a text config file in which you can change it (or is that just with web RDC client?? note to self!)
but has to be a TSE 2003 cos on 2000 you can't change the port number (2nd note to self - you sure on that??)

disproved my second statement here:

1. Go to Start | Run.
2. Enter Regedt32.exe, and click OK.
3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp.
4. Open the PortNumber subkey, and click the Decimal option.
5. Enter the port you want to use for the server (such as 3390), and click OK.
6. Close the Registry Editor, and open the Terminal Services Manager from the Administrative Tools folder.
7. Verify that there are no current connections to the server.
8. Right-click the RDP-Tcp branch, and choose Reset.
9. Test the connection from your RDC client: Enter the IP address of the server, followed by a colon and the port number, such as 192.168.1.10:3390.

I actually had a "Duh" moment. I was changing the default port number that Terminal Service was listening on with about 10 servers. And I didn't make the change on the server that I tested it with. "Duh" I was chasing a ghost. As far as changing it in the client, it was just appending the hostname or ip with a :14321 for the port that you set the server to listen on. with the Old Terminal Services client you can edit a file but if it's XP or 2003 then you just append the hostname with the port number separated by a colon.

Thanks for the post.

Regards,
Steve
