Good day all. I have just performed a migration from NT 4.0 to WIN2K3. Here is my problem (small one at that) I have users remote into a WIN2K terminal server and access MS Word. They can not utilize spell check because it is grayed out as if not installed. These domain users do not have local admin rights so therefore can not install the option. When I log in as admin to the Term server and use Word....the admin account has the Spell Ceck install !!! I need to give the users local admin rights and then log in as them to install the spell check feature....I know there is a command that I can do this from the command prompt but do not remember it. Any other ideas?

Thanks

you may have already fixed this but i'll answer anyway...

i'll assume you're running Office97. it definetly has this problem. If you're running Office2000 i think you're solution will be in modifying the TERMSRVR.MST file that you use to install Office2000 on a Terminal Services box.

M$ article Q257643 details the issue for Office97.

basically you edit the permissions in the registry for the Users group on the following keys:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\shared tools\proofing tools\spelling
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\shared tools\proofing tools\grammar

follow the Q article for the perm's to add

Once you do this, you may want to also disable AutoSpell Check and AutoGrammar Check from running in the background all the time, since this will just consume unnecessary processor time. if you want to do this, edit or add the following keys to the registry. (you can also do this via GPO using the right Administrative Templates, let me know if you need them)

HKLM\software\microsoft\windowsnt\currentversion\terminal server\install\software\microsoft\office\8.0\word\options
add or edit
AutoGrammar REG_SZ 0
AutoSpell REG_SZ 0

hope some of this helps,
jef

Thanks! I run TS and users are always complaining about the speed of the system. This will help.

Thanks Jef.
I did see a M$ article refering to use the .MST file on the resource/tools CD. I have not configured this yet and did suggest to the client to upgrade to Office 2000/XP. Just thought of something....does the same solution apply to Office XP?

Thanks for you help man

Mike
