Ok. I have some users in the field that use a poorly written application that has a character limit on the name of its printers. Some of these users log onto Windows 2003 Terminal Servers to work. The problem is that when RDP maps the clients local printers, w2k3 creates that VERY long printer name for that RDP session. This causes the application the users use to not function because the printer name is too long.

Does anyone know of a GPO or other way to force printer names in RDP to not go past a certain length?

Other than a custom script, I have not found anything yet.

Cant you just share the printers on their local machine, and install them on the terminal server with a really short name, then have the user print to the Terminal Server printer which is in reality their local printer with a short name?

That might be ok in a small environment, but my situation is with thousands of users that are VERY mobile. They move from place to place every day. This scenario would be installing thousands of printers on the TS.
