I have 20 licenses on one server and 24 on another one. When my clients connect to these server they are isued a certificat for the license they use, but when the logoff, the license is not released. So all my licenses are used and I can't connect other users. I don't want to delete all the entrys and restart again. The problem will only come back later. I want to fix it for good.

Thanks!!!!

Windows2000 Terminal Server licensing works as you described. In your situation, there are only 44 distinct computers that will be able to have ever connected to your terminal servers. If one of those systems was rebuilt or decommissioned, too bad. It still takes a license from the pool, and permanently. Since licenses cost around $70 a piece, one really has to keep a hawk eye on which systems are being used to connect, because each new system costs you.

You _can_ actually recover misallocated licenses by calling Microsoft's Terminal Services Licensing Customer Service Center and requesting a block of licenses to be reissued. They effectively give you a new block of licenses, so if you requested 25 to be reissued, you could have a total of 69 distinct computernames (sort of) in your database.

For a very detailed description of the way Terminal Server licensing works, read the following discussion transcript:

Hope this helped.

Actually you can download from Microsoft a fix that will expire your licenses within 60 days.

Don't have the exact url but you should be able to find it pretty easy on Microsoft's website. You still may want to call Microsoft and have them reissue you the licenses so that you can free them all up along with the fix.

I did call Microsoft and the did reissue me the license. It fixes the problem for now but this is really annoying.

I will try to find the fix and post the URL here after I find it.

Thanks Guys !!!
