Hello Simon,
SNMP generates traps for over temperature alarms on various components.
You'll need a monitoring machine, somewhere, that can listen for and interpret these traps (events) and then you'll need to tell your K class to send SNMP traps to that monitoring machine.
Your monitoring machine will interpret SNMP traps based upon information in a file called a MIB for the device(s) you're monitoring.

Have a look at /etc/envd.conf - you can determine appropriate actions at each preset temperature setting - HP doesn't report the specific temperature to the OS, although some of the newer services with HP 11i may now have this facility.
monconfig may also provide some additional monitoring via EMS.
