Well, re-orgs strike again. @=)

We're changing our Database Administration team from a group of 3 DBAs to a group of 3 DBAs plus a BI person plus a Data Steward. Since BI people and Data Stewards don't tend to do DBA tasks, my boss is looking for a new team name, something that includes all data-related jobs, to add to the organization chart.

I've only ever worked for DBA teams, nothing else. Has anyone else worked with a bigger team? If so, what do you call yourselves? Does anyone have any suggestion?

I tried "Thundercats", figuring our battlecry could be "Thundercats, Ho!" but got voted down... @=)

Since the X men is already taken... Our Team name is Database Services. My boss feels that covers just about anything to do with a database.

Hey. Now that's a nice one. Short too.

One of my co-workers was thinking 'Data Implementation and Administration Team'. Way too big of a mouthful for my tastes. @=)

why not the "League of Super Database people who can provide what ever service you want" : )

I know a lot of companies that use Database Services too. Like Citzens Bank. It also covers all platforms from AS400 to MySQL.

You know, I did ask for everyone to call me "Super DBA" and told my boss I wanted a cape as part of my contract.

<@sniff> Now they're calling me "SQL Nerd" and I still don't have my cape. <@snuffle>

for purchasing SQL Diagnostics I got a bright orange T-shirt from idera that says SUPER DBA! maybe if you bought something from Idera you could get one too. Besides, have you seen the Incredibles? You don't want a cape! It will get stuck in the fan of a server and you'll get sucked in! : )

I made up a fun business card that listed me as:

GOD - 'Granter of data'

-SQLBill

Posting advice: FAQ481-4875

That's funny as heck Bill. I'm going to start using that!

That's funny, Bill.

I don't have a card, but I did make a boo-boo when trying to explain something to our end users. They kept asking me to make data changes in the back end that violated our business rules and I couldn't get them to understand that they had to be careful what they asked for. I tried telling them as SysAdmin, I could do anything, including corrupting all our data, but they didn't get it. Finally I said "I am God in the database. Just because I can do what you want doesn't mean I should."

The comment got back to my boss who promptly asked me "Why are you telling people you're God?" I haven't been able to live it down since. Everytime I try to say I can't do anything, people say "But you're God, aren't you?"

Bleargh... @=)

Cat,

How about D(BA)BIDS

Get your DBA, BI, DS and DBIDS to tilt it toward the DBA side :)

Bill - agree with Paul....the Grantor of Data is top banana.

M.

We do not have a fancy name but our group is called "Data Management" Group which consists of DAs,DBAs & BIs.
: (

Data Management might work too. Right now, the boss seems to want something acronymy (yes, I know that's not a word) which kind of scares me. How do you fit something 10 words long on an Org chart for a team of 5 people?

Oh, hey! I just realized it must be a status thing! I get two whole words of the new team title to myself!!! @=?

Wow. It is way too early in the morning to be morning today. @=)

How about Data Aquisitions Transactions and Archiving.

DATA for your acronymy (btw, verbing weirds language).

HA! I love it!
