I have a Windows 2003 Standard Server that won't connect via VPN. This has worked previously but hasn't been used for a while. I am getting the error:

TCP/IP CP reported error 31: A device attached to the system is not functioning.

I know the server is good as I have verified with other clients. I have enabled logging on the Server (that is the client....) and in the RASIPCP.LOG file I am seeing the following:

Code:
[2752] 12-16 11:10:46:650: IPCP: IpcpThisLayerUp
[2752] 12-16 11:10:46:650: IPCP: IpcpThisLayerUp done

[2752] 12-16 11:10:46:677: IPCP: IpcpEnd done(0)

I can see in the logs on the VPN server that it is authenticating OK and negotiating an IP address OK but fails immediately after this.
I have removed and re-added the Intel NIC, I have ensured I am running the latest Intel drivers (although I think this is a TCP/IP issue). I have also googled TCP/IP CP error 31 and found lots of posts but no resolutions.

This is really getting me down, as I have already had to rebuild a RAS server this week and I don't want to rebuild this server as there is loads of stuff on it........

Anyone please?

Andy

Another f'ing rebuild..... grrr

I had this issue once and it turned out that the nic set its self up in a bridge with the Mac Bridge miniport. Disabled the bridge and all was good in the world again. Not sure if this your issue or not but its worth a look.

Hope this helps,

I ended up rebuilding it, which probably wasn't a bad idea anyway. I am pretty certain I didn't enable the 'Bridge Connections' but thanks for the suggestion.
