Hi Guys,

Any ideas, I noticed a few tapes on one of our servers that should have expired but haven't ...

The volretent (mminfo) showsed 25/8, but they are not showing as expired in nsrjb ???

Now, I could force them, but I'm more concerned as to why they're not doing what they should.

Thanks,

Martin

That is usually due to other backups relying on save sets on your "should have expired" tapes. NetWorker makes sure you always can restore your complete backup cycle if any of the save sets are within the retention period, hence keeping old backups longer than their actual retention.

If you search for "volretent" in the manpages you will find this parameter for the mminfo command which queries the media index.

This parameter does not exist for nsrjb, which does not deal with the database but with the jukebox resource file. Consequently the result must be different.

BTW - the parameter for the jukebox resource is "volume expiration". It defines when a volume shall not be relabeled again. It is set when the media is labeled.

The mminfo parameter "volretent" defines when the last save set for a volume will expire. So this is really a save set and not a media attribute - it just has the effect on the media which is not allowed to become recyclable before that point in time.
